Hello lovely people!! So, this blog isn't necessarily about fashion..but it's about two of your favorite fashionistas! For most of you, New Years Resolutions are still fresh on the brain, myself included. However, I chose resolutions that would not be that difficult to follow through (like flossing every night, eating fewer carbs etc)..just so I didn't get discouraged. So when I decided, mid-New years Day brunch, to sign up for the Virginia Beach Half marathon, I was more shocked than anyone else! It was like the thoughts were running through my mind and the words were coming out of my mouth, but the actuality of it wasn't registering...until I actually registered. Then there was no turning back. I was committed. I've always been able to run and enjoy doing it, for the most part, but I've never been one to jump at the opportunity to run a race per say, but completing a half marathon has always been something I've wanted to do. And here we are.
Rebecca was the person who inspired me to run the Monument Avenue 10K for the first time last year, so naturally I was ecstatic when telling her the good news.My enthusiasm must have rubbed off on her because I could see the little twinkle in her eye as we talked about it, and I knew then that she was putty in my hands- there was no way she was going to let me run this race alone! But I had to be strategic- I didn't want to pressure her on top of her 90-day Seal team Challenge she had just begun.. So I spent the next few days buttering her up, indulging her in a nice, long Sunday run, paying her copious compliments etc etc. And BAM, Monday morning she signed up! She couldn't resist my charm or the opportunity to buy a cute, new running dress! (this is how I remember the story, Rebecca..) Anyways, details, shmetails.. the bottom line is that WE'RE RUNNING TOGETHER (again)! And I couldn't be happier.
So now comes the fun part- for you. There were only charity spots left when we signed up, so our entry to the race is dependent on our fundraising for our choice charity: liveSTRONG. Please take a minute to check our pages and if you can contribute financially, great, but moreover we really just need your moral support!! First and foremost: HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Now that the holidays are finally behind us, it's time to focus on WARM weather.. I know, I know- this sounds crazy, especially to those of you that relish in the season change. But for those sun dwelling, beach combers like myself, we're busy planning our escape from the frigid days of January. I lucked out with two, almost back to back, trips to Mexico..seems like overkill? Maybe..but that's just how much I hate the cold weather! My first trip is a quick one: a 4 day cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. So as I'm surveying the holiday aftermath at work today, I started thinking about what to pack. Of course I think I need a whole new wardrobe- but I seem to think this before every trip I take! I talked myself of that impending pre-vacation financial disaster, but did put together some looks that I wouldn't mind stowing away in my suitcase:

Gift Wrap for Jack

Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays!! It’s hard to believe that 2012 is almost upon us. I hope this letter finds you and your family well. I’m writing to share some exciting and inspiring news about Pink’s Annual Charity Gift Wrap. As many of you know, Pink’s Charity Gift Wrap has supported several local organizations in the past, including The Battered Women’s Shelter and the Virginia Food Bank. This year I proposed to do something different with the proceeds, some- thing very personal to me. You may know that I have three half-siblings on my dad’s side: Sophie, who will be nine in just a few weeks, and seven year old twins, Jack and Emma. About a year ago, Jack was diagnosed with Duchene’s Disease. More commonly known as Muscular Dystrophy, Duchene’s disease is characterized by general muscle weakness starting in the legs and working its way up, eventually leading to paralysis sometime between the late teens to early twenties. Researchers are currently working to find a cure, but until one is found, the disease is terminal.

Of course this is devastating news for anyone to receive, and my family certainly went through a period of frustration and sadness. But we have decided to focus on what Jack can do and realize that the best way to support him is to stay positive and give him the opportunity to have a happy childhood. Children affected with MD usually start expressing symptoms before or around the age of five, but are still able to function without braces or a wheelchair until nine or ten, and so far Jack is following this pattern. Despite the difficulties, we want him to have normal childhood--whether it be through trips to Water Country USA or playing soccer in the front yard. Our goal is to make him feel like a child first: love him unconditionally, encourage him to develop his independence, and answer any questions he may have along the way.

By participating in Gift Wrap for Jack, you will be directly supporting Jack. The money raised will go towards medical expenses, including a bi-annual trip to Cincinatti for check-ups, and necessary home modifications. The charity wrap will be available through Christmas. I truly appreciate your participation in something that is so close to my heart.

Now that Thanksgiving has flown by, it's time for holiday gatherings to commence- complete with decorations, egg nog and anything sequined! Breaking news: I just saw a news story on MSNBC with a story that Nordstrom will not celebrate/decorate for Christmas until Black Friday. God bless them and let's hope other retailers follow their lead. Please, one holiday at a time! I think the joy of the holidays have been ruined by commercialization. Nobody loved Christmas more than me but years of retailers advertising the holiday earlier and earlier has made it ugly. I used to love Christmas music ... Mom and I would pull out sing-along with Mitch Miller and sing carols all night and we were glued to the tv, watching Christmas specials with Dean Martin and their ilk. Those were the days! Retailers did great business without reminding us every second from Oct 15th to Dec 24th with advertisements. So I raise my eggnog to Nordstrom and say hallelujah!

Everyone has experienced a "bad day at work," but not everyone chooses the same coping strategies to deal with the stress {mine would involve throwing back a fishbowl of wine}. Enter a new, sweet customer, Megan. She was wandering through the store yesterday, approachable, with a friendly smile on her face. As she was indecisively trying on knit hats, I asked her, if there was anything else she was looking for. She turned to me and simply confessed, almost relieved to put it out there:

"I had a bad day, so I bought chocolate, bread... I am going to eat my feelings and buy something really expensive!!"

What I loved the most about this statement was that it was pure honesty.

Libby and I listened to her, because there was so much more background than just a tough work day. We also did NOT let her buy anything really expensive that she would later regret. However, she picked out the Rebecca Taylor faux furry jacket for the photo, as the would-have-been-impulse purchase!

It is my day off from work and met up with some girlfriends for coffee at Lamplighter. We are three tall brunettes, fashionably dressed in head-to-toe black, ready to decompress and share our trials and tribulations of Motherhood. While sipping on a beautifully prepared latte, I look up and see Pink customer, Jamie D., sporting a Rebecca Taylor cream jacquard/black polka dot trim blouse, purchased from our recent Rebecca Taylor trunk show, and Tucker's cream faux fur jacket. Of course, she gladly accepted my request to snap a pic and be blogged about.

Nail Trend Alert

A friend of mine has been fixated on owning a matte black car for over a year now, and when he first mentioned that to me, I never thought it would become a trend.. but lately, I've noticed more and more matte black cars- and it seems to be somewhat of a status symbol now, believe it or not. But who would have thought that would translate to nails?? Not me. Now, I must be honest with you here- I didn't come up with this idea all by myself..I had a little help from my new favorite obsession: Pinterest.com. Some have said that I'm late jumping on this bandwagon, but for me, it's right on time. If you haven't checked it out, do so, but don't blame me when all of a sudden 4 hours have gone by and you've done NOTHING except make your board for your Dream Home or Place You Want to Go. Anyways, I found a similar picture on pinterest not too long ago and have been fixated ever since. So on my day off, I decided to treat myself to a little mani/pedi with my girl Csi (pronounced "Chi" at Eliz's Nails on Forest Hill). I explained what I wanted as best that I could, but in the end, I had to pull up a pic on my archaic iPhone 3G(someone please get me the 4S!) and after studying the photo, she said she would try. Apparently I was the first one to have such a request, but I'm sure I won't be the last! But seriously, how perfect is a matte black French manicure for Halloween?! Pretty close to perfection.

Old vs. New

   After those 9 or 10 days under the dismal low pressure front (or whatever caused the never ending dreary weather), I was not only looking forward to my trip to sunny LA, but it was a necessity. I'm pretty sure that my vitamin D count was lower than low thanks to the week and a half of rain here in VA. So why was I going to LA, you wonder? Well, I was hired by a local agency (who happen to be good friends) to assist with their annual photo shoot. Did I have to think about it? Absolutely not. It was a "yes" before the question even came out of their mouths! So I didn't mind waking up at 3:30am to catch a 5am flight, not one bit..and I definitely didn't mind stepping off the plane at 9:30am to sunny, 75 degree LA weather.
   Fear not- we weren't lounging by the pool, sipping Mai Tai's all day- we actually worked our tails off through the weekend. Therefore, when Monday rolled around, we thought we deserved to have a little fun.. so we drove up the coast to Malibu and ate at a fabulous restaurant where Sunset Blvd meets the Pacific Coast Highway- Gladstones, if you ever find yourself out that way. And then took a drive up to The Getty Villa. Now, I am no art connoisseur, however this museum is a must if you're in Malibu. Let's see if I can regurgitate a brief history of the place for you: Getty was a wealthy oil mogul who loved to collect art- especially antiquities. He started to display the pieces in his home, but even after an addition was built, there was still too much to house. So he commissioned an architect to replicate a villa found buried at the base of Pompeii- most of the home had perished in the eruption, but somehow the drawings were found intact. Getty passed away before seeing the villa with his own eyes, but having been there first hand, I can truly say that I felt as if I was transported back in time.
   Now you're probably wondering, "what on earth does all this have to do with pink/fashion?" well, perhaps my favorite part of the whole museum was the room of jewels...yea, now we're talking! As i perused the bobbles, I noticed that the pieces felt really familiar to me despite the fact that they were from 400AD and earlier..and it's because I HAD just seen these styles! Here I was, looking at current trends in jewelry but from 1600 years ago! Even the hooks and clasps were the same.. which just goes to show that fashion really is recycled! go on, see for yourself..

Its Friday, just after lunch, and all I can seem to think about is whether or not I should get Sweet Frog yogurt

(which is really just an excuse to eat chopped up Snicker's bar) or something from For the Love of Chocolate...

but instead I'll be good- and occupy my hands with blogging! So what are your thoughts on printed pants?

Personally I love them! As does Rebecca Taylor, Tucker and Joie, to name a few of our favorite designers. If you

look past the print, it's just another pair of pants- an alternative to jeans or cords. Wear them with sweaters and

booties or flats during the day and dress them up at night with a silky tank tucked in and a killer pair of heels.

Failgate...

Saturday morning, despite the rain, Rebecca and I got all dressed up in our Spiders team colors and set off to Robins Stadium to tailgate before the big game. We had it all planned out- we brought tons of pink cups and coupons to giveaway, and packed the quintessential tailgate foodies. But when we pulled up to the lot and were asked to present our pass, the blank stares on our faces said it all- defeat. We asked if there was a way to obtain a pass just for the day and the long and short of it was simply "No." There must have been some fine print overlooked on our behalf, but we didn't give up. We forged our way around, and around, and around and around campus (which is very pretty, btw) until we had talked to every person in a yellow shirt about where we could potentially set up our little satellite pink station. We decided that unless we could be in the "cool" lots, our mission would not be accomplished. So we left.

Don't worry though, we'll try again! But in the meantime, we have tons of coupons and cups to give away! Not to mention, our raffle prize has increased in value, so stop by and enter to win a $200 gift certificate!!!

I am SO embarrassed that our last post was almost TWO months ago!! Where does the time go?!

Well, fear not- we're back in action now (especially since I just got my new laptop in the mail this week- thanks Rebecca!!). We've been busy transitioning into Fall, which officially started this morning at 5:05- funny, seeing how its 80 degrees still! But you wouldn't be able to tell inside the store- it's full of fabulous sweaters, to-die-for boots and perfect party dresses. So if you haven't stopped in, please do..and we'll put an order in for the weather to change!

In other news, Rebecca and I will be braving the rain tomorrow morning at Robins Stadium, joining thousands of U of R students and their families for a good, old fashioned tailgate. If I had a dollar for every time someone said to me: "Oh, you're at that age..I remember when all of my friends got married etc etc.." I would have at least half of the amount of money I've spent thus far on all of these weddings! Don't get me wrong- I'm so happy for all of my friends who are tying the knot (Jessica & Josh, Sarah & Kurt, Heather & Reid, Dargan & John and Max & Amy- I wasn't kidding about being on the wedding circuit!) But let's face it..weddings=$$$ and not just for the father of the bride! In the end, it's always worth it..the first dance, the fight for the bouquet and of course, the cake! I guess I could be practical and just wear something I already have, but where's the fun in that?! So I put together my fantasy wedding weekend wardrobe with some of our new summer digs.. These outfits are perfect for a destination wedding in a place like Charleston- a laid back beach town with old town, southern charm. Is it a coincidence that I'm heading there on Monday for a wedding....??? :)

Move Over Royal Wedding..Here Come Heather & Reid!

Well, it finally happened- the closest thing to a Pink vacation in 20-some odd years!! Thanks to Heather (a former Pink employee) and Reid's nuptials, we all packed up and made the 7 hour trek down 95 to Charleston, SC. It was a weekend to remember, filled with bluegrass bands, barbeque and plenty of beer- and a perfect wedding ceremony to top it all off! We were very lucky to have a weekend of impeccable beach weather- endless amounts of sunshine without a cloud in the sky. A big thanks to Angie, Dawn and Bex for holding down the Pink fort while we were all off celebrating with the happy couple! And thanks to Heather and Reid for letting us all share this amazing time with you and your family!!!

Born in Paris, raised in Cairo, Nathalie Sergent is a nomad at heart. 15 years ago she drove from France through Africa and eventually put her bags down in Kenya. For many years she lived in the bush in a tent and with her solar powered sewing machine made hats to be worn in Ascot and glamorous weddings in France, England or Japan. In the last 5 years she established her workshop in Nairobi and designed clothes using the bold prints cherished by Swahili women, leather bags, belts and beaded accessories.

Nathalie worked with communities of Maasai women, using their traditional beading techniques to create a unique afro-fusion style. She supplied a number of designers, the likes of Donna Karan, Christina Kim of Dosa, Henri Beguelin, etc. More recently, designing jewelery has taken precedent. An eclectic designer, Nathalie's inspiration is very organic, tribal as well as glamorous. She likes mixing materials such as leather, gold and stones. Despite my previous claim that mannequins have no feelings in general, I think our gals are trying to tell us something on this particular Wednesday morning...Unless you live under a rock, you know that this Sunday May 8th is Mother's Day, which means you should all at least have thought about how you're going to honor that special woman in your life! Judging by our mannequin's apperances, I can only assume that they are from the same mommy mannequin; I'd like to think she was one of the originals at Miller & Rhoads department store- or better yet, maybe she was the first to stand in those oh-so-famous windows at 34th & 6th Ave in NYC at none other than the Macy's flagship store- how glamorous would that be?! In all actuality though, their "mom" is probably an assembly line decorated with all sorts of machines and robots programmed to mix fiber glass and pour it into arm and leg molds..but just for today, let's pretend their mom is in the mannequin Hall of Fame (if only there was such a place!).

What does a mannequin daughter get for her mom?! Can't take her brunch..so what about a new outfit? Perhaps she would love the new Elizabeth & James metallic shorts with a cropped, cream ruffle tee by Joie Soft, topped off with the Twinkle Lion Head necklace. Or maybe she wants to play dress up in the new black & white striped Kirribilla number- it's tea-time appropriate! And you know she HAS to have that Rebecca Minkoff bag! A Day in the Life of a Pink Mannequin

I've always secretly wondered what it would be like to be a mannequin- not one of those real people who get paid to stand unthinkably still in a storefront, but a real, plastic (or whatever they're made of) form with removable limbs. I probably shouldn't admit to this, but lately I've put some serious thought into it, and I've come to the conclusion that while there are a lot of pros, there are also a few cons.

Yes, as a mannequin you have a impeccably perfect body- tall and thin with legs for days and sculpted arms...almost the whole package, but missing perhaps the most important part- A FACE! No eye or hair color to distinguish you from the girl standing next to you. That means you never get to treat yourself to a day at the salon (never mind the fact that you wouldn't even be able to bend your body to sit in the chair); nor will anyone ever say to you "Your eyes are blue, like the ocean..and baby, I'm lost at sea." On the other hand, you'll NEVER have to hem a pair of jeans ever again! Your boobs will also defy gravity, not to mention they are the PERFECT size- AND, you'll never have to wear a bra! Dream come true to most..And imagine not having to shave your legs again, so say goodbye to $18 razor refills (seriously, when did they get so expensive?)

Aside from the physical aspects of being a mannequin, there's also the emotional side. A real person may have an issue with hundreds of people walking by, pointing and sometimes laughing at them on a daily basis, but being a mannequin you lack the ability to process these emotions because your head is full of fiberglass- not a brain. However, I would miss some human emotions though..such as the happiness I feel when eating chocolate covered almonds from For the Love of Chocolate. I would also miss laughing at Rebecca's quirky jokes and endless stories about "what her kids did this morning".. And, as a mannequin (especially at a women's clothing store), I would never get to experience the excitement of a first date. On the other hand, though, I would never have to feel heartbreak. But I would get groped and prodded on a daily basis- thanks to window display changes!

These are just a few of my thoughts, I'm sure there will be more as the days go on (and I have nothing better to think about!), but perhaps the most important part of being a mannequin in Pink is being able to represent the beautiful digs we have to offer, morning, noon and night!! Thanks girls!

We did it! Here's the proof! That's me with my arm up and Rebecca to the left in a pink hat. This was taken around mile 5, and I was definitely feeling it! It was an amazing experience for me- nothing like a little early morning run with 41,000 of your closest friends, right?? I finished in 62 minutes, Rebecca in 61, not bad at all! Thanks for everyone who supported us! We'll both be working tomorrow, so stop by and visit!

Catch Us if You Can!

Many of you may know the story of Rebecca and I, but for those of you that don't, let me fill you in real quick. Rebecca is a true Pink veteran, having worked here on and off for 20 years and I have spent the past 18 years in and out of the store, playing dress up, hanging with the employees and, most recently, working full-time (fyi:Libby is one of the owners and also my mom, if you couldn't tell :) ). Therefore, I've known Rebecca for ALMOST my whole life! And she'll be the first to tell you that when she was my age, she would babysit me for nights at a time while my mom was out of town, over in our old house on Greenway Lane. She'd try her best to keep me and my friends contained in the basement in front of the TV while she and Christian, Kelly and Erin (all former Pink employees) would hang out upstairs, but most of the time we'd end up intermingling. I guess this was all foreshadowing, because 15 years later we're still hanging out! And working together! On paper, our lives appear very different: she's married and has two sweet (and well-behaved) children, and I'm 26 and still trying to find my way in the world. However, in reality, we're very much alike and over the years, our bond has morphed into this friendship/sisterly/sometimes maternal type relationship. Sometimes we just need to sit around, drink wine and laugh, other times we have to coach each other through daily dilemmas such as what to wear to a specific function or how to work through a problem with a friend, and sometimes I just need some motherly advice, like how to cure perpetual dry skin or get a stain out! Needless to say, we know a LOT about each other, so when I decided to run the Monument Ave 10K this year, I knew that Rebecca was the perfect running mate for me. For starters, she's the ultimate Seal Team diva- if I had a dollar for every time she tried to convince me to come to Bring a Friend Day "just to try it out", I'd be RICH!!! And secondly, we needed more than one person to represent PINK!! Moral of the story is we'll be out there tomorrow morning, bright and early with our black hair up and our running shoes on! So keep an eye out and give a shout if you see us whiz by...thanks Rebecca for being my support team, I hope you know what you're getting yourself into :) LOVE YOU!

Hello WARM weather!! Does this mean that winter is over? I sure hope so... The forecast predicted such high temps today that I ditched the tights and went bare-legged with my fryes and skirt today (and not just because I got spray-tanned this morning and couldn't wear anything tight on my legs...) but because IT'S WARM!! As the weather turns, most of you will be looking beyond your winter clothes and onto your spring wardrobe, assessing what you have, what you need and what you need to get rid of..and that's where I come in!     How do I love Thailand?? Let me count the ways...actually, let me not because if I did, this blog would last for DAYS! Three years ago I was fortunate enough to spend 3 months over in Southeast Asia, traveling through Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Aside from a few 3-week vacations here and there, this was the first time that I was away from home for such an extended period of time- those of you that know me now may be laughing to yourselves because it seems like 3 months is the minimum for my trips these days, but back then, this was a big deal! So I borrowed my friends backpack and somehow figured out how to pack enough clothes for 3 months, and off I went. As my 18-hour direct flight took off, I left behind the cold January weather and an (extremely) nervous mother..I'll admit now that I was also a little unraveled at the thought of stepping off the plane literally halfway around the world, but in hindsight it was the best thing that I've done. I'll never forget the first night in Bangkok, sitting at dinner and looking down the street only to see a man walking an ELEPHANT, like it was a dog! That's when I knew I was far, far away from my home.
   Anyways, to make a long story short (see, I told you I could go on for days..) I found my way through Cambodia, saw Angkor Wat, then on to Vietnam (where I ate the best spring rolls I've ever had), and finally landed in Thailand, on the island of Koh Phi Phi, where the movie The Beach was filmed. Basically I ended up in paradise. And I still don't know why I ever left! The five or so weeks I spent on the island were pure bliss- I learned to scuba dive, made some great friends and worked on my tan (relentlessly!). Sadly though, the day came when I had to bid adieu. One last night in Bangkok and I was scheduled to take off, on that 18 hour direct flight back, halfway around the world, to my home. Deborah had been to Thailand three times before and highly recommended that I hit the Chatuchak Market before I left, so I changed my return date to accommodate the market hours on the weekend (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatuchak_Weekend_Market) And let me tell you- I STILL have dreams about this place! It's SO, so enormous..it would take multiple weekends to sift through all of the stalls. I spent all day there, buying pretty much everything I could get my hands on- but still, it wasn't enough! People were selling the most beautiful fabrics, scarves and jewels...I just wish that I had had more time, and more of a sense of what I wanted! It was overwhelming to look at all the goods and I was worried about having space in my backpack. So I left as all the vendors were closing up shop, knowing that one day I would return- with an extra suitcase in hand!
   What's the reason for this whole Thailand rant you ask? Well, I'm sure you noticed the photos above- these are new accessories and bags from a company called JADEtribe and they are all handmade in, where else, Thailand! They are beautifully crafted and very functional. I have the smaller pouchette and I've used it for everything from a wallet when traveling abroad to a lip gloss/makeup case. The larger pouches can be used as clutches and make great gifts (hint hint Valentine's day!) and the bags are AWESOME! They are all messenger bags, thus can be worn across the body, and have plenty of room. The pictures don't do them justice- you have to see this handwork detail up close and personal, it really is amazing.
   I hope you can come in a see for yourself..and I hope that every single one of you has a chance to travel to Thailand. It truly is an amazingly, magical place! And if/when you do go, make sure to take a trip to Koh Phi Phi for some scuba diving- it's mesmerizing! Until then...

Mothers are ALWAYS right!

Last Thursday night I went out with some girlfriends for a Girls Night Out. We were a beautiful group dressed in clothing and accessories from where else, but Pink! Three out of the five of us are Moms, sharing our latest and greatest kid dramas that actually included vomiting on Mommy's newly purchased Monrow dress, as she was walking out the door for our evening out! Luckily, the belt of the dress was removed and the outfit was spared.

Sitting at the bar at Bellytimber Tavern (www.bellytimbertavern.com), I was admiring said friends' gorgeous navy leather Marc by Marc Jacobs envelope clutch. She opens it up and I see her phone, lipgloss and a rectangular pack of baby wipes?! Now that is a true fashionable Mother! Here's the tip she gave me:

*Use the baby wipe pack to fill out the envelope clutch!

Moral of the story: If you are a mother, you can still dress well, go out with your girlfriends AND give advice without talking like a 2 year old!

As some of you may have noticed in the past, Pink's window displays can be pretty unreal- all thanks to our main man, Ken! It seems like he outdoes himself every time- no detail goes unnoticed. Personally, I love being in store after hours while he's working because I LOVE watching his creative process and sometimes he even lets me help :) You know that saying "the grass is always greener"? Well, that is surely the case for me when I see him execute his brilliant ideas- like, "why can't I think of that?!" At least I can appreciate it!

Ken will spend however long it takes to get it just right. If that means 120 hours (like our Marie Antoinette-inspired Christmas window 3 years ago did) or a mere 6 hours, he gets it done. Our display room, for lack of a better term, has multiplied in size over the years, but luckily Ken knows how to recycle as well! We have wigs from 10 years ago down there that have been known to make an appearance or two on a particularly "silly" day aka an event we've hosted that involved adult beverages :) Not that we're lushes or anything...(right Rebecca?! ala CanCan..)

Anyways, I couldn't let this window go unnoticed- it's Picasso inspired in preparation for the exhibit opening here at the VMFA later this month (http://www.vmfa.state.va.us/Picasso/) I like to call our window his "Pink Period" hehe. Ken did the drawings(with chalk) after researching Picasso's work and then sketching his own versions. He styled the girls to the max, right down to their stockings- and no, those tights are not available in the store! In fact, you can make your own- just take two different pair, cut them in half and put one half on each leg and voila!

So, the moral to all my ranting here is if you live in Richmond, come by and check out Ken's latest and greatest masterpiece! And stop in a say hello when you do. I did my best to take some photos for you out-of-towners,but alas, pictures only capture a portion..nor am I the world's best photographer! Enjoy nonetheless and hope to see y'all soon.

Pink + Give a Penny = LOVE

I can't believe that it's already February and yet another Fashion First is upon us. Seeing that Valentine's Day is right around the corner, we figured we'd celebrate with a jewelry trunk show! And as soon as we decided that, I knew exactly who to bring in- Mary Kelly Stribling of Give a Penny Designs. An old college classmate, Mary Kelly and I reconnected almost 2 years ago thanks to good ol' Facebook, and, as I'm always scouting for new jewelry lines, I noticed that she was posting images of her designs which really caught my eye- the pieces were affordable and gorgeous. So I wrote a small order to test the waters and sure enough, it flew out. People loved it! Not only for the aforementioned facts, but because the philosophy behind her company is based on giving back; for every purchase made at a jewelry show, Mary Kelly gives a portion to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society...and who doesn't love charity?!

At any given time, you'll be able to find at least one of her pieces in our jewelry case, but they don't last long- it seems like I'm always reordering her jewels to keep our case stocked for our customers (and myself- I must admit, I own more than a few pieces from her collection!). And I'm happy to report that she was more than willing to ship her new spring collection up for our Fashion First event this coming Thursday from 12-8.
